A note on change
Everything in my life has completely changed in the space of 6 weeks.
The business I've been building for five years has shifted and I've launched a virtual Pilates studio and wellness platform that's now entirely online. After 18 months of hard-core planning and prep for a wedding I'm now married and am officially a wife!!! We've moved out of our first home that we've lived in and loved for the last six years, and tomorrow morning my husband Ben and I head to Australia for a year of adventure and experiencing what life could look like for us down under.
Now I have to be clear, the overriding feeling ahead of our trip is complete and utter excitement. As one of my best friends would say, I am positively "FIZZING" about what this year could bring. (What a great way to describe a feeling)
I truly believe each and every one of those changes was meant to be, but they've come and gone at break neck speed and as someone who admittedly finds change quite tricky to say the least, all the emotions are finally catching up with me.
Emotions like anticipation, excitement, anxiety, grief, joy are all bubbling around my brain (to name a few), but I take comfort in knowing that the one constant thing in all of our lives is Change.
You'll likely know by now I'm a big believer in letting things co-exist, especially in a season of transition. Because even if change is good, it still be hard. Even if change feels small, it can make big shifts. Even if change is unexpected, it can still be needed. And that's OKAY!
It's all well and good me saying that, but if I'm honest, I've spent most of my life trying to resist and reject change. I've been comfortable, I know my routines, I know my systems, and I know what works for me so why would I need to shake things up!!?!!! I've learned that that resistance usually comes from a place fear; Fear of the unknown, fear of trying something new, fear of losing what I've gotten used to.
But as the saying goes "Change is scary, but so is staying the same."
Now I'm not saying we all need to up-end our lives completely and change everything about ourselves, but more that when we accept the fact that Change is the truest and most certain thing in life, it kind of brings about a sense of freedom, in my opinion. Now that's easier said than done (believe me, I've been working on this for a while now!) But we just need to reframe the way we think about it...
How freeing is it to be given the gift of a fresh start! How amazing is it to be at the start of a story you don't yet know the ending to! How exciting is it to know that so much goodness is waiting for you on the edge of change!
So as I look back in the rear view mirror at alllllllll the people, places and things that that bring comfort and familiarity as well healthy dose of FOMO (lol) and homesickness already, I'll also be looking ahead, at the joy, excitement, expectation for what's to come.
I don't know what life will look like after our year in Australia, but I can't wait to see what changes.
Thank you for being here, through every season and every change ♥️
